Giuseppe Verdi described Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde as ‘one of the finest creations ever to have issued from a human mind’.
Peter Bassett’s talk will look at Tristan’s place in the mainstream of western classical music and opera staging, the influences that shaped it during a crucial period in Wagner’s life, and the highlights of its wondrous score.
Numerous visual images and musical examples will accompany this lively and stimulating presentation which is also being given in Auckland and Sydney.
