Our Meeting on 17 June at the Queensland Multicultural Centre will feature Stephen Emmerson discussing the influence of the writings and ideas of philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer on Richard Wagner’s ground-breaking Handlung (‘Performance’ or ‘Action’) Tristan und Isolde. There will be a particular focus on the perspectives and opinions of two English philosophers: Brian Magee and Roger Scruton. The presentation will include showing the love duet from Act 2 from the La Scala production, illustrated above.
